Berkeley is getting a pretty sweet breakfast spot right off of Tennyson St. The former home of DJ’s Cafe is now Wendell’s and it promises to delight with some delicious offerings that take breakfast and kick it up a notch. Partners Patrick O’Neill of Avanti F&B, Kade Gianinetti of The Way Back, and consulting chef Eric Lee, formerly head chef at Linger, are all on the roster for Wendell’s, The interior has been revamped with exposed brick and ceilings, lots of light and a bright and airy feel of an American Diner transformed. Lee has a self-described (un)healthy obsession with pancakes going so far as to have a tattoo of them on his arm. However, having tasted one of the short stack choices on the menu, I can attest that his obsession is well founded.
