2021 Season of Sunset Cinema at Sculpture Park

Sunset Cinema came back for the 2021 season featuring four different films this summer. This year, the location moved into Sculpture Park proper, attached to the Denver Performing Arts Complex and live performances were added to the mix as well. The season started off with the movie CoCo and performances by Artistico and Mariachi Sol De Mi Tierra. Next up on the big inflatable screen was To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything Julie Newmar! with a drag show hosted by Denver PRIDE emcee DeMarcio. The first Tuesday in August featured Black Panther with an African American hair and fashion show inspired by the movie as well as a dance performance by local Denver choreographer legend Cleo Parker Robinson. The final show of the season ended with Raya and the Last Dragon with a traditional Chinese Lion dance performed by Boulder’s Shaolin Hung Mei Kung Fu as well as Denver Taiko’s thunderous traditional Japanese drumming.

After a few years of photographing this series, I want to go out on a limb and say that I enjoyed the new format and location more than I have before! Stay tuned for next year’s series of amazing films.
