Travel in the United States: Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta

This big, blue planet we call home is full of wonderment and adventure. Natural beauty surrounds us and at any given fork in the road lies surprises, the unexplained, the undiscovered.

This was my first trip to the city of Albuquerque. Each year the city is host to the world’s largest international ballooning event appropriately named the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. For nine days in the beginning of October, around 600 balloons and 1,000 pilots take to the skies each morning to see where the wind takes them.  There are different events each day including music concerts, evening glows (lovingly called Glowdeos), morning launches, laser shows, chainsaw carving competitions and fireworks displays. Attendance over the week usually ranges close to a million people visiting the Duke City. I will say that as a first timer I was not adequately prepared. But in the next few years I hope to return to the fiesta with knowledge learned in hand!
